Dune Part Two is set to be an "action-packed epic war movie" according to director Denis Villeneuve, who shared a first look at the film at CinemaCon 2023.
Villeneuve was joined stars Zendaya and Timothée Chalamet at the Warner Bros. Discovery panel at CinemaCon to reveal more about the highly anticipated sci-fi sequel.
The footage shows Paul Atreides (played by Chalamet) and Chani (played by Zendaya) sitting together on the dunes before cutting to Princess Irulan (played by Florence Pugh) wondering about Paul being alive.
We also get a look at Austin Butler's Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen, who screams in his reveal shot. Paul is then shown again, this time in a sandstorm, before it cuts again to him standing before the masses.
Villeneuve said the film picks up right where the first Dune finished, with Paul and his mother joining the Fremen tribe and earning their trust. "We see Paul Atreides become a leader here," he said.
As for Chani, "she's not just in dreams this time", said Zendaya, who makes clear there's definitely more of her in Dune Part Two than there was in the original.
As for Feyd, Villeneuve described him as a psychotic Olympic sword master crossed with Mick Jagger. "Part Two is more a more action-packed, epic war movie," he continued. "Much more dense" compared to the "contemplative first one", he continued.
Dune Part Two wrapped production in December, not long after its premiere date was pushed forward to November 3, 2023. The sequel also adds Christopher Walken as the Padishah Emperor and Léa Seydoux as Lady Margot.
