Announced Black Friday Deals (NOT YET LIVE)
As retailers announce their Black Friday plans, we're covering what items will be on sale but aren't on sale yet. Here's where you can find those.
Black Friday 2022 At a Glance
Each year on Black Friday, all the major retailers go all out, offering discounts on just about every category of item. Some of the big players are Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, and Target, but most national chains will offer some kind of sale over Thanksgiving weekend.
Many of the deals are available both in store and online, though some are exclusive to one or the other. In particular, doorbuster sales are often only available in brick-and-mortar locations. You’ll have to check the Black Friday ads to see where the deals will be. Black Friday ads tend to be released a couple of weeks before the big day. You don’t need a newspaper subscription to find them, either, as they’ll also be released online.
When Is Black Friday 2022?
Black Friday falls on November 25, 2022. As usual, this is the day after Thanksgiving. While the best doorbuster deals will go live on November 25, many other deals are already live.
When Is Cyber Monday 2022?
Cyber Monday is on November 28, 2022. This is an online-focused sale event, and it exists at pretty much all the same retailers that participate in Black Friday. You can generally find many of the same deals from Black Friday on Cyber Monday, plus a handful of new ones.
What Black Friday Deals to Expect
As for what categories of items go on sale on Black Friday, it’s just about everything. Here are some of the top brands and products to keep in mind ahead of Black Friday:
- Apple
- Nintendo
- Dell
- TVs
- Laptops and Gaming PCs
- Graphics Cards
You’ll find discounts on Apple products like Apple Watch, iPad, and AirPods Pro. Many retailers, like Best Buy and Walmart, drop prices on TVs, often to the lowest prices of the year on many of the most popular models.
Laptops and desktop computers, including gaming PCs, go on sale at places like Dell and Best Buy during Black Friday. You'll also probably find great deals on graphics cards this year, since pricing has stablized in recent months on popular cards like GeForce RTX 3060, 3070, 3080, and 3090.
Video games, even some of the big fall releases, get big price cuts on Black Friday. The more recent the release, the lower the discount, in general. But you still might be able to save $10 or $20 off games like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, The Last of Us Part 1, and other recent releases.
The official Nintendo Black Friday deals have been announced, including a Switch bundled with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and 3 months of Nintendo Switch Online for $299.99. That's a deal Nintendo has offered for several years running now. Also, as usual, select Nintendo first-party games will be on sale for $39.99. 4K UHD and Blu-ray movies and TV shows will get similar sweeping discounts.
As a general rule, the best deals do tend to sell out. For many items, Black Friday is the best time of year to make your purchases, because the discounts are as low as you're likely to find all year.
Best Black Friday 2022 Retailers
All the major retailers participate in Black Friday, but there are differences between them in terms of what goes on sale.
Best Buy, Walmart and Target
Best Buy releases a Black Friday ad detailing what will go on sale, but you can expect great discounts on gaming TVs, computers, video games, movies and TV shows, and even some appliances.
Walmart and Target also release ads in the weeks leading up to the big event. They put a little of everything they offer on sale, including the kinds of things you'll get discounts on at Best Buy, but also clothes, kitchenware, and much more.
Amazon
Amazon is one of our audience’s favorite retailers, but it does Black Friday a little differently than its competitors. It still offers loads of year’s-best deals, but Amazon does less to advertise the discounts beforehand. Last year, Amazon began its Black Friday deals the first week of November, but not many notable items were on sale during that time. The real deals started the weekend before Black Friday.
What kind of deals are we talking about? One thing Amazon will definitely discount on Black Friday is Amazon devices, of course. You’ll almost certainly find Echo, Echo Dot, Kindle, Kindle Paperwhite, Fire Tablets, and Fire TVs on sale for the lowest prices of 2022. (The only other time you might see discounts this big is on Prime Day).
You can also expect to see deep discounts on tons of exciting video games, movies, TV shows, toys, and housewares. And, since Xbox Series X|S and PS5 availability has been rebounding over the past few months, we might even see a new bundle or discount, particularly on the less in-demand Xbox Series S.
Amazon also tends to price-match other retailers’ Black Friday sale prices, so if you see a discounted item elsewhere and you prefer shopping at Amazon, it’s worth checking to see if Amazon is offering the same deal.
Black Friday 2022 Tips and Tricks
Here are some general tips for saving money (and not spending too much) on Black Friday or really any sales event!
- Keep a look-out for Black Friday ads: The big-box retailers like Best Buy, Walmart, and Target will release circulars at some point in November, usually a couple of weeks before Black Friday. These will advertise the doorbuster deals as well as any other notable discounts you can expect. These can help you plan which stores and sites to visit on Black Friday.
- Check sale prices. Not sure the deal you’re eyeing is any good? If the deal is on Amazon, check camelcamelcamel.com. This site tracks Amazon prices and lets you see how low the price has dropped in the past. You can check historical prices on nearly any item on Amazon. If the deal you’re considering isn’t on Amazon, check around at other retailers to see how much it costs there. That will give you an idea of whether or not it’s a good deal.
- Don't sit too long on a great deal. Many of the best Black Friday deals will sell out quickly, so if you see a particularly great deal on an item you want and it fits your budget, jump on it before it sells out.
- Set a budget. If money is tight, you'll definitely want to set a budget so you don't get carried away with spending when you see deals.
- Make a list. Simple enough, but if you're doing your holiday shopping during Black Friday, it always helps to have a list of people for whom you plan to buy gifts. The idea is to set limits and not to buy more than you have to.
This is just the beginning of our Black Friday coverage. Check back for much, much more information as it comes out. We'll also have up-to-the-minute articles across all kinds of categories, including TVs, gaming PCs, video games, toys, and much more.
Black Friday Deals FAQ
Are Black Friday Deals Actually Good?
Black Friday is one of the best times of the year to get discounts on consumer tech, toys, games, and just about everything else. Although there are some sales that are subpar during the shopping holiday, you can usually find really good deals from major retailers like Amazon, Walmart, and Best Buy.
Is Black Friday Better Than Cyber Monday?
Although Black Friday and Cyber Monday will sometimes have different discounts, they are mostly comparable to eachother. The main reason to shop Black Friday sales over Cyber Monday deals is that some discounts will disappear from retailers as stock dwindles.
What Should You Buy on Black Friday?
Most products will have some sort of discount during Black Friday, but traditionally the best discounts are on high-priced items like TVs, Gaming Consoles, and Apple products. Keep an eye out for big discounts on name-brand tech from retailers like Amazon and Best Buy.
