Zoe Saldana and Dave Bautista may be done with their Guardians of the Galaxy characters after Vol. 3 comes out this week, but Chris Pratt isn't saying the same.
In a new interview with GamesRadar+, Pratt revealed that he's open to returning as Star-Lord, even as Guardians writer/director James Gunn makes the jump from Marvel to DC.
"It would be strange to continue Peter’s story without James," Pratt said. "He's done such a masterful job in the first three films. We really found the voice of Peter Quill together and without him, obviously, I would never have had this opportunity. He writes it, he directs it, he dreams up the music, it’s his imagination on screen."
"So, to continue to tell the story," he went on, "it would really be important to honor what he's done in the first three films and to honor what the fans have grown to love about the character and not simply do it because people might show up to pay for it, you know?"
What's next for the Guardians
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 marks a trilogy capper for Gunn and his band of misfits, and it's currently not clear which, if any, of them will continue to appear in the MCU.
"I don't think this is the end for the Guardians," Saldana said in a recent THR interview before asserting, "It is the end for me, for Gamora."
Bautista, meanwhile, had previously said that he was relieved to be leaving Drax behind, especially as the extensive makeup process was "beating [him] down."
"With Drax, I just got to end the perfect way," he said in a recent appearance on the Tonight show. "And I would never sign up for another job as Drax just to get a paycheck. I would tarnish that [perfect ending], and I won't do it."
Regardless, if any members of the crew are killed off, you won't be able to blame Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige for it. Feige said in a recent press conference that Gunn gets "all the slack there is to give" in terms of leaving his characters in certain places for the future of the MCU.
"On previous movies, we had some discussions about that,” Feige said. “But not on this one. This one really was about seeing it through, because it always was designed as a trilogy capper."
