Thanos creator Jim Starlin has revealed Avengers: Infinity War had a 45-minute deleted scene that was never finished that would have shown Thanos' destructive trip to Xandar to retrieve the first of the Infinity Stones.

As reported by Collider, Starlin was a guest on Near Mint Condition and spoke on this scene in question that was only discussed in the final cut of the film. At the beginning of Infinity War, we pick up at the point of the story where Thanos already has the Power Stone and uses it to stop Thor, Loki, and Hulk and retrieve the Space Stone from the Tesseract.

In the deleted scene, we would have seen Thanos head to Xandar, which is where we first see most of the group that would become the Guardians of the Galaxy together, and decimate the planet and the Nova Corp in his quest to obtain the Power Gem. Unfortunately, certain factors led to it being cut despite it actually being shot.

"But about a month before the movie came out, I got an email or something from Joe [Russo] saying, 'the 45 minutes of Thanos that we had at the beginning of Infinity War, we had it cut.' There was a whole sequence of him getting the first gem and they had to cut that out," Starlin said. "They shot it, but they never wanted to spend the money on the effects and they didn’t want the movie to be as long as the second one [Endgame] was. They didn’t realize it was going to be quite the hit it was."

The line about Marvel not thinking Avengers: Infinity War being "quite the hit it was" is also an interesting reveal, as we now know it ended up earning over $2.05 billion at the global office and currently sits at #6 in the list of the highest-grossing films of all time.
