Here’s one for comic book fans. Three new collections of Marvel comics from the Silver Age are coming to the Penguin Classics line. These upcoming books will be available in deluxe hardcover editions, as well as paperback versions. The new collections gather early issues from X-Men, Avengers, and Fantastic Four. They’re set to release September 12, but you can preorder them now.

The new collections join the existing individual superhero Penguin Classics collections that cover Spider-Man, Black Panther, and Captain America.

X-Men Penguin Classics Marvel Collection

This collection, available in hardcover and paperback, collects X-Men #1, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 14, 15, 16, 38, 41, 42, 44, 45, and 46. The Avengers might be the biggest thing in comic culture now, but ‘90s kids remember when the X-Men held that title. (See this book of Uncanny X-Men trading cards for warm feelings of nostalgia, if you're of a certain age). These hand-picked issues of X-Men are highlights from the early run of the original comic in the 1960s.

The Avengers Penguin Classics Marvel Collection

This collection, available in hardcover and paperback, collects The Avengers #1-4, 9, 16, 26, 28, 44, 57, 58, 71, 74, and 83. Those selections represent the most important issues of the early run of The Avengers, when Hulk, Thor, Captain America, and other superheroes joined together to fight a murderer’s row of villains.

Fantastic Four Penguin Classics Marvel Collection

This collection, available in hardcover and paperback, collects Fantastic Four #1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 10, 11, 48, 49, 50, 51, and Fantastic Four Annual #6. That includes “The Galactus Trilogy,” which introduced both Galactus and Silver Surfer. While the recent Fantastic Four movies haven’t made much of a splash, don’t count them out yet. This group was the face of Marvel Comics throughout the 1960s.
