Now that the current-gen crop of gaming consoles — PS5, Xbox Series X — is actually in stock at numerous retailers, there’s a good chance you’ve managed to pick one up. Bleeding-edge games are great, but sometimes you want more passive entertainment. One of the best features of the PS5 an Xbox Series X is that they both play 4K UHD Blu-rays. The video and audio quality can’t be beat with standard Blu-rays or streaming. Right now, a ton of fantastic 4K UHD Blu-rays are on sale at Amazon and Best Buy. Let’s take a look at some of the highlights.
4K UHD Blu-ray Deals
What’s so great about 4K UHD Blu-ray discs? A number of things, actually. For one, you actually own the movie or TV show, which certainly isn’t the case with streaming. Movies are constantly leaping from one service to the next, so you can never really count on being able to watch your favorites whenever you want unless you own a copy. Also, you can watch movies on disc anytime, even when your internet craps out. Take that, Netflix.
The audio and video quality is also better than streaming, since there’s much less compression. If you have a nice, modern TV that can display deep, OLED-level blacks and the full range of HDR colors and brightness, you’ll likely notice the difference between streaming and 4K UHD Blu-ray right away. When I watch a 4K disc, I swear it looks clearer than real life. I don’t know how they do that, but that’s the magic of cinema.
Lots of great movies are on sale now, including The Batman, Dune, Everything Everywhere All at Once, Ambulance, and Nope. You can also pick up the first season of Halo for $24.99. Plenty of classics are on sale, including Total Recall, Ghost in the Shell, Pulp Fiction, and more — all looking better than you’ve ever seen them.
