Since its inception back in 2015, Prime Day has been a one-a-year kind of event. Originally spanning just a day, the event has continued to grow in scope and now encompasses a 48-hour sale event for all Prime members. But where can Amazon go from here? The retail giant could supposedly add an extra day to the summer sale event, or... they could hold another Prime Day later in the year.
Prime Day 2022 was held on July 12-13, but it wasn't long after that we started to see some rumours appear speculating about the possibility of a second Prime Day event in 2022. None of these rumours has been confirmed, but it's left many of us wondering - will there be a second Amazon Prime Day event in 2022?
What is Amazon Prime Day 2 and Is It Happening?
Amazon has not confirmed any kind of Prime Day 2 event in any shape or form, but that hasn't stopped the heavy speculation. Currently, we've only got a few months left of the year, so Amazon would have to host its second Prime Day 2022 event in October, November, or December.
If it doesn't want to cut into its Black Friday, Cyber Monday, or Holiday sales, there's a high likelihood Amazon could shoot for an October sale to get ahead of the Black Friday "sales" that seem to take over in November onward. Currently, this is what the rumours seem to suggest, and has seemingly been reported by multiple outlets. But, still, nothing has outright been confirmed by Amazon just yet.
Prime Day 2 and Black Friday: What's The Difference?
Black Friday itself is starting to become a little bit confusing, let alone adding another sale event into the mixer beforehand. One of the biggest worries consumers generally have around Black Friday season is the risk of buying something, only to see it significantly cheaper before the sale season is over.
So, if the rumours are in fact true, having another Amazon event certainly isn't going to help with this. But there's a good chance Amazon could also address this with some kind of Black Friday price promise on some of its bigger items, like Fire TV Sticks, or Echo smart speakers etc.
Overall, Black Friday isn't much different to Prime Day events, other than the fact only Prime members can access Prime Day sales, while Black Friday deals are generally open to everyone. Other than that, typically the deals are very similar, with a few extra discounts thrown around in each event.
Amazon Prime Day 2: When Will It Happen?
Currently, the sale is rumoured to kick off in October, and will be some kind of "Fall event sale." Right now that's all we know from the current rumours. It might not even take on a 'Prime Day' form of marketing, and instead, rely on a new title for the pre-Black Friday sale. But, it is still supposedly meant to be a Prime-member-only sale, and is rumoured to run for two days, just like the recent Prime Day events.
Note that a Prime Day event has been held in October before in previous years, but this was delayed into October because of the COVID-19 pandemic and was the only Prime Day event that year.
How Much is Amazon Prime?
Amazon Prime now cost $139/year or $14.99/month. You can get a 30-day free trial for the service, or a 6-month free trial if you're a student with a .edu email address.
How Does Amazon Prime Day Work?
Most recent Prime Days tend to last for 48 hours, within which all sale items are only available to those with a Prime membership. It's easy to sign up for one, but it'll also cost you $14.99/month, or $139 if you pay annually. Otherwise, you can always sign up for the free 30-day trial available.
If you set it up at the right time, it should which will cover you for any sales Amazon put on soon, or if you're lucky, the rumours will come true and you'll get to experience another Prime Day in 2022.
If there is a sale coming up soon, you should expect Amazon devices like Echo speakers or Fire TV sticks to be heavily discounted, alongside other typical items like video games, 4K TVs, tech, homeware, and more. Otherwise, all these items will also be on sale for Black Friday as well, so you won't have much longer to wait.
Is Amazon Prime Worth It in 2022?
Subscription services like Amazon Prime are absolutely down to personal preference, but Prime does come with a whole host of benefits if you do think it's worth it. There are obviously Prime Day deals to take advantage of, alongside increasingly quick same-day to 2-day delivery times, and then there's access to Prime Video and Amazon Music services.
Prime Video is a streaming service challenging the likes of Netflix, HBO, and Disney+, and includes plenty of incredible TV shows and films to check out including The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, The Boys, Jack Ryan, Good Omens, The Wheel of Time, The Expanse, and Reacher.
But, it's all up to you, $14.99 a month is a lot of money at the end of the year, and you'll definitely want to feel like you've gotten the most out of it. If you want any more updates on Prime Day 2, make sure to follow @IGNDeals on Twitter.
