Jurassic World Dominion's Director Says the Giganotosaurus Is 'Like the Joker'

Jurassic World Dominion director Colin Trevorrow has teased that the Giganotosaurus - the film's antagonistic dinosaur - was created to be "like the Joker."

Speaking to Empire, Trevorrow shared a bit about the Giganotosaurus a.k.a. Giga, which is actually a real dinosaur and not a genetic hybrid like Jurassic World's Indominus or Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom's Indoraptor.

"I wanted something that felt like the Joker," Trevorrow said. "It just wants to watch the world burn."

To help highlight his point, Trevorrow and the team shared an image with Empire that shows the fearsome dinosaur and some of film's heroes.

The Giga is from the amber-rich BioSyn Valley, and BioSyn is the longtime rival to InGen who used Wayne Knight's Dennis Nedry to steal embryos many years before.

“BioSyn got the contract to house the dinosaurs that have been captured around the world via various governments,” Trevorrow said. “They claim it’s a research facility where they can study the pharmaceutical values of the animals. But there’s some other stuff going on.”

One of the BioSyn employees that will be featured in Jurassic World Dominion is Mamoudou Athie's Ramsay Cole, a "very ambitious and forward-thinking young man."

When Jurassic World Dominion arrives in theaters on June 10, it will be a much different film than previous entries, and it will be one Trevorrow has been waiting for so long to bring to life.

"It’s an entirely new kind of movie,” Trevorrow promises. “It’s the thing I’ve been waiting to do this whole time.”

The third Jurassic World film will complete the latest trilogy, but it won't end the dino franchise. It will also feature more animatronic dinosaurs and practical effects than the other two Jurassic World movies and will see the return of original Jurassic Park stars Sam Neill, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum.
