PS5-compatible SSDs have been dropping in price pretty consistently since the beginning of 2022. If you want to upgrade your PS5's internal storage without compromising on speed, any old SSD just won't cut it. You'll want to pick up an PCIe Gen4 x4 M.2 solid state drive with a rated 5,500MB/s read speed. A heatsink is also highly recommended. You could either get one without heatsink and add it yourself, which is very easy to do and only costs about $10 on Amazon, or you could buy one with one preinstalled.
WD Black SN850 1TB M.2 SSD
PS5 Compatible
There's a new price drop this week that brings the WD SN850 1TB model down to $149.99 without heatsink and $168.99 with heatsink, the lowest prices we've seen. The WD SN850 is still one of the most highly recommended SSDs to get for your PS5 storage upgrade. It's definitely a blazing fast drive with transfer speeds rated at up to 7,000 MB/s and PCIe Gen4.
Samsung 980 Pro 1TB M.2 SSD
PS5 Compatible
If you want to stick with another brand you're probably more familiar with, check out the Samsung EVO 980 PRO solid state drive. Samsung EVO SSDs need no introduction, and the 980 PRO is the best of the best. It is fully PS5 compatible and you can even opt for a pre-attached heatsink so that it's ready for you to install out of the box. At this price, it's currently the same price as WD's latest price drop and cheaper than the Seagate Firecuda 530 and offers comparable performance, reliability, and compatibility.
XPG GAMMIX S70 Blade 1TB M.2 SSD
PS5 Compatible
The XPG Gammix S70 Blade even at its current MSRP of $129.99 is far and away the least expensive PS5-compatible SSD, especially if you factor in the included heatsink. For today only, Best Buy drops the price by another $10, making this an unbeatable deal. The S70 Blade boasts transfer rates up to 7,400 MB/s and a PCIe Gen4 interface. It includes a PS5-compatible low-profile aluminum heatsink. It's not beefy, but it's been proven to work.

All PS5 SSD Options in Stock
There are several more fully compatible PS5 SSD options for you to choose from. In addition to the drives listed above, there are some good choices from Seagate, Crucial, Patriot, Sabrent, and AData. The Firecuda 530, for example, is actually considered the fastest drive compared to all the other models listed here. Crucial has been in the solid state storage market forever. AData actually owns XPG (but you can choose the AData SSD if you want a better matching heatspreader).
