During the Meta Connect 2024 keynote presentation, Meta CEO and founder Mark Zuckerberg revealed a new virtual and mixed reality headset, the Meta Quest 3S. It'll come in two SKUs, one with 128 GB of internal storage for $299 and another with 256 GB for $399. The Meta Quest 3S is available to preorder now and will launch on October 15.
The Meta Quest 3S features the same Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 processor as its Quest 3 counterpart, and uses the same Touch Plus controllers with the same inside-out tracking capabilities. There are a few key differences, however. The Quest 3S has a slightly lower display resolution (1832 x 1920 per eye) and uses Frensel lenses as opposed to the originals' pancake lenses. This also results in a slightly narrower field-of-view (FOV) at 96 degrees horizontal and 90 degrees vertical. You will also notice that the front cameras have been redesigned, but still have the same passthrough capabilities.

This announcement coincides with updates to Meta's mixed reality social apps, the addition of Dolby Atmos audio capabilites, among other small updates across the Meta Horizon platform. Both the Quest 3 and Quest 3S (all SKUs) will also come with Batman: Arkham Shadow for free.
